Massachusetts Day of Percussion 2008:
"Celebrating the Literature of Snare Drum"
Massachusetts Day of Percussion 2008 will be held in Boston on Sunday October 19th, 2008 at The Boston Conservatory. The Day is the first in a series exploring the literature of a particular percussion instrument. This event will feature the premiere of several new concert and pedagogical works featuring snare drum in solo and ensemble contexts. Commissioned works and selected winners of a snare drum etude competition will be included in a published volume of works which will be released for purchase at the event. Performances and classes at the event will explore the many musical faces of snare drum - orchestral, contemporary, drum corps, pipe band, etc. - as well as its history, mechanics, and maintenance.
