Greg Zuber organizes a commissioning project for a flute/percussion piece by Alejandro Vinao.

Greg writes:

Dear fellow percussionist,

I am organizing a consortium to support the commission of a new 15-20 minute duo work from Alejandro Vinao for marimba and vibes stacked, and flutist possibly doubling piccolo and alto. The total fee for the work is $10,000. In return for being a supporting member you will get two years sole performance rights along with the entire group and collective first recording rights. I am hoping for a total number of at least 25 participants. That way, barring finding a pot of additional money to support this, $10,000/25 = $400 per contributor. If there are more people, the price will be further divided into smaller shares.

Alejandro has been very proactive about this project having already written down some ideas and sketches. He is planning to complete the work by the end of 2008 as afterwards he is committed for quite some time to an opera project. I am excited to have this opportunity to get another percussion work from him now before he no longer has time and/or has long term commitments to larger scale works. I hope that we take advantage of it.
