Dublin Coffman Percussion Ensemble Premiers New Piece

Percussion Ensemble Spring Concert Press Release  Come see the Dublin Coffman Percussion Ensemble's annual solo concert on Tuesday, May 13th at 7:00pm in the Coffman High School Performing Arts Center.

The ensemble will perform new and challenging works, and feature several members as soloists. A few special guests round out a performance that is the culmination of the ensemble's work this year. The concert will feature all 26 members performing a yet to be published piece by director Dan Hostetler called "Bouncing Round The Room". The piece requires each player to use a basketball as a percussion instrument. The entire group stands shoulder to shoulder on the front of the stage and executes several minutes of synchronized movements designed for both their visual and aural aesthetic.   Jennifer Laubenthal, a doctoral student in Clarinet performance at Ohio State University and former Coffman band assistant director, will be featured on two movements of Philip Parker’s "Five Pieces for Clarinet and Percussion Orchestra".  In addition to being the director of Coffman’s percussion ensemble group 2,  Matthew Ryan Kilgore will be featured on David R. Gillingham’s "Concerto for Marimba". This will be one of the first performances of this 2008 arrangement. Ryan serves on the marching band staff at Coffman and recently received his masters degree from Northwestern University. The ensemble is directed by Dan Hostetler.  Questions call 614-262-6361 danshos@aol.com
