Coordinator, Chris Thomas, say it is a Day of Percussion Music Education! Special guests are: VCU Percussion Ensemble, US Army Drum and Bugle Corps, and Longwood University Percussion Ensemble. There will also be raffles, a fastest hands
competition, and full concessions.

Nathan Daughteryat James Madison By C. William Rice, Shenandoah Rep
Nathan Daughtery, composer and solo marimbist, will be in residence at JMU April 18 – 21st. He will present a master class Friday and perform with the university percussion ensemble Sunday at 3:00pm and Monday at 8:00 pm. Both concerts will be held in room 108 of the Music Building on the JMU campus. Dr. Daughtery will perform David Gillingham’s new work, “Concerto for Marimba and Percussion Orchestra.” His performances have taken him across the United States, Eastern Europe, and Japan. He has appeared as featured soloist with the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, North Carolina Symphony, and several university orchestras across the U.S. His first CD, “Spiral Passages” was released in 2001 and featured original and transcribed works for solo marimba, as well as accompanied works. Nathan’s performance of McCarthy’s“WarHammer” from his CD was recently featured on National Public Radio’s All Songs Considered program. Dr. Daughtery’s performance is made possible with generous support from the Virginia chapter of PAS, Vic Firth Sticks and Mallets, Yamaha Corporation, C. Alan Publishing and Friends and Alumni of the Percussion Studio.

INDIANA SUMMER PERCUSSION ACADEMY/WORKSHOP

July 14-18, 2008

This intensive 5-day event is offered to talented percussionists.
Applicants in grades 7-12 are invited to apply for the Pre-College Session. Applicants over 18 years of age are invited to apply for the Adult Session, with both offerings running concurrently. Master classes, clinics, and performances will be
presented by internationally renowned performers. Sessions will
include: audition techniques (for college and professional auditions),
chamber music, sight reading, orchestral timpani and
percussion,marimba, drum set, accessories, world percussion, career
development, and much more! Students will also perform in the IU Summer Percussion Ensemble, presenting a “grand finale” concert. On-campus housing
available.

Faculty/Guest Artists: Keith Aleo, Christopher Deviney, Gordon Gottlieb, Steve Houghton, John Kilkenny, Glenn Kotche, Gordon Stout, John Tafoya, and She-e Wu.
