drumSTRONG is a multicultural, musical charity event produced by DrumsForCures, Inc. a 501 (c)(3) non-profit charity organization, where medical, nonmedical, integrative and holistic health entities and specific cancer societies display their missions and methods showing the local resources available to address cancer concerns.
It is a gathering to rhythm.
We are using the simple principles of rhythm to spark communication.
The Guinness World Records organization has been informed that we will set the record for the planet's longest continuous rhythm drum"a"thon.
DrumsForCures encourages cancer awareness at home, in schools and throughout communities. We promote cancer education, research and funding for local and national initiatives. We are attracting attention by inviting local and celebrity artists to play with all assembled; drumming non-stop for 24+ hours&
Educating youth to the causes, early detection and affects of cancer is the primary mission of DrumsForCures. Drumming is the modus operandi. ¡BEATing cancer!
The music attracts many people to an event where questions about health (particularly cancer) can be addressed. Cancer education and familiarizing oneself to the available tools and resources to deal with the disease simply puts the odds in ones favor; knowing one's adversary is the classic model for survival. People receive guidance from the exhibitors and acquaint themselves with some of the resources available regionally and nationally that help address cancer concerns. Sadly enough, few people are not "touched" by cancer in some fashion...
You dont have to have rhythm to participate, just a heartbeat.
We are also organizing a national network of percussionists to bring rhythm into children's hospitals and clinics for the unifying, healing and entertainment values. We know that it works on many levels.

Featuring Exhibits, Education and Entertainment,
The 18th Annual Chicago Drum Show Continues To Expand Its Tradition.
The 2008 edition of the worlds largest and longest-running vintage and custom drum show is set for May 17 and 18 at the Kane County Fairgrounds in St Charles, Illinois (just 35 miles west of downtown Chicago). With over 1,000 visitors expected, The 18th Annual Chicago Drum Show will feature nearly 100 exhibit spaces filled with vintage drums, parts and accessories, cymbals, custom drums, and related products as well as a consignment area for independent collectors.
According to CDS promoter and vintage drum authority Rob Cook, confirmed exhibitors include over a dozen first-time participants and range from large established firms like Drum Workshop, Ludwig, Roland, and Sabian to small custom shops such as Craviotto, Dunnett, Hillbilly Customs and Metro Drum Company. A number of exhibitors such as Craviotto Drums, Vaughncraft, MCD Percussion, DW, Joyful Noise Drum Company and many of the companies sponsoring clinicians have already announced plans to contribute specially made instruments to the shows popular raffle program.
Each Drum Show admission allows access to the 15,000 square-foot exhibit area as well as the exclusive drum clinics that will be presented throughout both days of the show. As in recent years, an extensive A/V system will broadcast general announcements, raffle news and the clinics throughout the exhibit area. In addition, some of this years clinicians will be participating in a new Master Class program with limited enrollment and smaller room size intended to give attendees the opportunity to interact with world-class players in a more intimate environment.
The 2008 CDS artist roster features a wide range of talent representing a variety of drumming styles, including:
" Welsh drumming sensation Gail-Louise making her North American debut (sponsored by Rebeats.)
" Drummer, author and stickmaster Chip Ritter (sponsored by Trick, Trueline, Mel Bay, Attack, Quick Sticks, Epad and Rebeats.)
" Jazz artist Bob Moses (sponsored by Zildjian, Remo and Rebeats.)
" Rock drumming legend Carmine Appice, (sponsored by Slingerland, Sabian, DW, Alfred, Firth, Aquarian, Shure and Hal Leonard.)
" Local hero and former Mel Tormé drummer Donny Osborne (sponsored by Drum Workshop, Zildjian, ProMark, NotSoModernDrummer and Rebeats.)
" Big band specialist Matt Wilson (sponsored by Steve Maxwell, Remo, Craviotto and Zildjian.)
" Studio and touring musician and Modern Drummer columnist Billy Ward (sponsored by Drum Workshop, Zildjian, Evans, Trueline, Shure and Hal Leonard.)
" Multi-talented jazz/rock drummer Cindy Blackman (sponsored by Gretsch, Zildjian, DW, Hal Leonard, Rebeats.)
Sharing the Master of Ceremonies duties on the clinic stage will be popular Chicago rock fixture Gregg Potter.
This is the most diverse group of artists weve ever presented and includes not only superstars and icons, but also some fresh faces, explains Cook. Im proud to say that the artists and exhibitors for this years show continue the Chicago Drum Shows tradition of meeting the needs and desires of vintage and modern drummers of all ages for the past 18 years.
Complete, up-to-the-minute listing of exhibitors, sponsors and clinicians plus show-related news can be accessed at the show website, www.chicagodrumshow.com. For those traveling from outside the Chicagoland area, the website also contains important information about accommodations, activities and events, including local appearances and performances by several CDS artists.
