All Star Trio

The All Star Trio enjoyed a distinguished career, and their recording catalog of releases is lengthy. George Hamilton Green (xylophone) and F. Wheeler Wadsworth (alto saxophone) were the driving force of the ensemble that also included Victor Arden on piano. Collector Robert McMillan calls this trio of instruments “an exceptionally happy combination.” Green seems to have thrived in this musical environment that offered him many opportunities to display his amazing range of improvisational and technical skills.

The All Star Trio recorded for a number of labels, including Brunswick (1919-20), Aeolian-Vocalion (1919-20), Emerson (1919-20), Medalion, Pathé (1920), and Okeh (1918-21), Edison (1918-20), and Victor, where the trio performed alone and with orchestra (1918-22).

This information is taken from William Cahn, The Xylophone in Acoustic Recordings (1877 to 1929). Bloomfield, NY: Cahn Publishing, 1996.
