The Percussive Arts Society (PAS) is pleased to announce the finalists in the 2005 Solo Percussion Contest. Four collegiate percussionists will perform in the final round of competition on Nov. 3 in Columbus, Ohio, during the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC). This year's solo category is multiple percussion with tape/CD.
The finalists are: Mike Deutsch , California State University at Northridge; Greg Samek , University of Windsor (Canada); Ryan Smith , University of Georgia; and David Wolf , University of Oklahoma.
The purpose of the competition is to encourage the highest level of artistic expression in the art of performance and literature for solo percussion. The contest is open to college level students, age 18-25 years.
The first place winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize, plus a matching $1,000 grant for his university's percussion program. Second through fourth place winners will receive $750, $500 and $250 cash prizes, respectively, plus matching grants for their university percussion programs.
