Percussive Arts Museum hosts
C.U. Percussion Ensemble Concert Oct. 16
The Cameron University Percussion
Ensemble will present a free public concert at 3 p.m.,
Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005, at the Percussive Arts Museum,
701 NW Ferris Ave., in Lawton. The ensemble is conducted
by C.U. Professor Dr. James Lambert and includes Cameron
student percussion majors and non-percussion majors.
The Cameron University Percussion Ensemble (C.U.P.E.)
has performed for the past 30 years, featuring members
of its percussion studio. Cameron percussion alumni
and graduates are now either performing or teaching
throughout the United States. Current members include
percussionists Jason Dozier, Eric Vandergrift, Tony
Bertram, Jarrod LaRoche, Danny Morris, Chris Corral,
Gareth Jester, Ryan John, Klay Reece, Jeremy Toombs,
Holly Van Pelt, Clint Williams, Chris Marchante and
Ryan Joyce. These students will be featured in a variety
of percussion repertoire reflecting contemporary composers
for the unique percussion ensemble idiom.
C.U.P.E. will perform Kabalevsky’s “Comedians
Gallop” arranged by Gordon Peters, John Beck’s “Overture
for Percussion,” Jared Spears’ “Legacy,” John
Beck’s “Rhythmitis,” Phil Faini’s “Highlife,” and
Emory Alford’s arrangement of “The Shadow
of Your Smile”. Eric Vandergrift will be featured
in a solo performance of Paul Smadbeck’s “Rhythm
Song” and Jarrod LaRoche will be featured on
lead steel drum on Lalo Davila’s “Mo Java”.
Rolando Morales-Matos’ arrangement of the Rogers
and Hammerstein “Hello, Young Lovers” will
feature Eric Vandergrift on vibraphone, Jason Dozier
on drumset, Danny Morris on bass, Chris Marchante on
congas and Ryan John on bongos.
