In Memoriam

Michael Bookspan
Michael Bookspan died on Sept. 12. He was the Principal Percussionist and Associate Timpanist with the Philadelphia Orchestra and was on the faculty at the Curtis Institute of Music. He studied with Fred Albright, Morris Goldenberg, and Saul Goodman and graduated from the Juilliard School of Music. While still in school, Bookspan worked with the Little Orchestra Society of New York and the New York City Ballet. Upon graduation, he joined the Philadelphia Orchestra, with whom he was featured several times as soloist, playing marimba, xylophone, and in 1993 performing a percussion concerto written for him by Robert Suderburg.
