Michael Hooley
William Michael Hooley 43, of Kirksville, Missouri, passed away
February 6, 2000, at his home.
Hooley received a Bachelor of Music degree in Percussion Performance
from Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana. In 1981
he received a Master of Music, Literature and Performance degree
from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, where he was named the Outstanding
Teaching Assistant in 1980. In 1991 he received a Doctor of Musical
Arts Degree, Percussion Performance major with Theory Pedagogy
minor from the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa where he served
as Assistant Instructor from 1984-1988.
He began his teaching career in McMurry College in Abilene,
Texas in 1979 as Assistant Professor of Music and served on university
and departmental committees from 1979-1984. From 1984-88 he was
the Assistant Instructor of Music at the University of Iowa in
Iowa City, Iowa. From 1988-90 he was Chair, Department of Music,
Assistant Professor of Music at McMurry University in Abilene,
Texas and served on university and departmental committees. He
also taught Percussion at Abilene Christian University in Abilene,
Texas, Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Cornell College in Mt.
Vernon, Iowa and Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, Texas. From
1990-2000 he was Assistant Professor of Percussion at Truman State
University in Kirksville, Missouri and served on university and
departmental committees.
His marching experience included Head Percussion Instructor,
Valiant Knights Drum and Bugle Corps in Enid, Oklahoma 1979-80;
Head Percussion Instructor, Imperial Guard Drum and Bugle Corps
in Evansville, Indiana 1980-82; Percussion Instructor, Emerald
Knights Drum and Bugle Corps, Colts Drum and Bugle Corps, 1985-86;
and Head Percussion Instructor, Emerald Knights Drum and Bugle
Corps, 1986-88. His orchestral experience included: 1976-79 Percussionist,
Terre Haute Symphony; 1979-81 Percussionist, Waco Symphony; 1981-84
Principal Timpanist, Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra; 1984-88 Percussionist,
Cedar Rapids Symphony; 1985-88 Principal Timpanist, University
of Iowa Orchestra; 1988-90 Principal Timpanist, Big Spring Symphony;
1988-90 Principal Timpanist, Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra; 1991
Principal Timpanist, Okturnwa Symphony; and 1997 Principal Timpanist,
Oskaloosa Symphony Orchestra.
He served on the PAS Composition and Marching committees,
and was a member of the National College Wind and Percussion Instructors
(NACWPI), Missouri Music Educators Association, Music Teachers
National Association, Missouri Music Teachers Association, Phi
Mu Alpha, and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. |
