The Ju Percussion Group (JPG), founded by percussionist Tzong-Ching Ju in January 1986, was and is the first percussion ensemble established in Taiwan. The ensemble consists of thirteen talented percussionists and one composer in residence. All members easily play Western percussion instruments as well as Chinese gong-drum music, and other forms of Asian traditional music. Under the direction of Tzong-Ching Ju, the JPG is often invited to perform in festivals and concert series all over the world. The JPG actively cultivated the percussion music by regularly commissioning and premiering the compositions. It has accumulated 110 national and international commissioned works. The ensemble pioneered the development of the percussive arts in Taiwan. Through the classical, popular, and children concerts that JPG arranges annually, it has contributed to the steadily growing popularity of percussion music in Taiwan.
