SYNESTHESIA: Battery 3 Presets For Mandala Showcasing the Mandalas ability to control pro audio software, Synesthesia Corporation has released 50 Native Instruments Battery 3 presets for the Mandala 2.0, along with an HD Black Beauty Battery 3 Player for Mandala. They are available now to anyone via free download from the companys Website at www.mandaladrum.com. The presets configure drum sampler Battery 3 for use with the Mandala (Battery 3 required, and is not included with the Mandala), using only samples from the Battery 3 12GB library of more than 100 drumkits with more than 23,000 individual samples. The presets configure the Mandala pad as a straightforward MIDI controller. The Battery 3 presets also: assign samples in up to seven circular trigger zones across the Mandala pad; extensively use the Mandala's 128 circular strike zones to change triggering and effects parameters as drummers play for true HD drumming; and cover playing styles from straightforward grooves to experimental sonics. Tricks new Dominator pedal offers all of the Pro 1-Vs unique performance features in a package designed to provide greater affordability.
Like the Pro 1-V, the Dominator is made entirely in the USA, of AL13 aerospace alloy. Its designed as a modular single pedal that can be combined with a second pedal to create a double version, using a stainless-steel drive shaft with Tricks zero-backlash free-floating universal joints.
Each Dominator features the Pro 1-Vs unique internally housed compression spring, which is adjustable on the fly by turning an easy-access knob. Footboard and beater angles are independently adjustable via a split cam system, and both the drive and beater cams feature laser-engraved reference markers for precise positioning.
Another distinctive design element on each Dominator pedal is Tricks all-machined beater with a telescoping beater head. The beater shaft is crafted from a unique metal called Fatigue Proof Steel®, which allows the shaft to absorb the exact amount of flex necessary to keep it from breaking under repeated heavy impact.
Other Dominator features include a long, smooth, rear-hinge footboard design, a spring-loaded quick-release hoop clamp, a direct-drive linkage, and a wide-track rail-style foundation for stability and reduced weight. All pedals come with a black anodized finish.

Black Swamp Percussion introduces their new line of carbon fiber timpani mallets. The series consists of seven models of varying felt thickness and core hardness, extending tonal and dynamic versatility. The mallets are weight and pitch matched precisely, with the carbon fiber shafts providing consistent feel and response with no vibration feedback.
Musser's 2 square-steel Moto-Cart frame is extremely durable and can be racked to add cymbals, trap tables, bells, and a host of additional accessories. The wheel base of the Moto-Cart frame can be adjusted outwards for maximum balance. The Musser aluminum resonators are designed to bring out the resonance of each bar. All aluminum resonators are Silver Vein powder coated to be scratch resistant and hold up in rugged outdoor conditions.
Both the Musser 4.5 Octave M7365 Symphonic Grand and 4.3 Octave M7360 Classic Grand models have special features such as a height adjustable keyboard with two hand knobs on the sides of each frame end, telescoping wheels designed to extend out on both sides to carry the extra weight of the outriggers and other accessories, and all-terrain wheels that are 8" in diameter by 2-1/2" wide and can swivel for easy turning. These air-filled tires can easily roll over most obstacles such as door thresholds, hoses, cords and even gravel or stone surfaces with very little effort.
The unique tone of the HAPI Drum is created by a tuned vibrating tongue of steel. The concept is similar to a wooden tongue drum. When a tongue is quickly and lightly struck with the finger or mallet, it vibrates creating sound waves. By changing the shape and length of the tongue, optimal vibration and perfect tone is achieved. Each note, when struck, excites surrounding notes that are musically compatible with it. This adds to the harmonic spectrum of the tone. The tone is similar to singing bowls or musical bells, which create multiple harmonic overtones.
The body of the drum acts as a resonating chamber adding depth to the note. An opening port in the bottom of the drum serves three functions: The bottom hole allows the sound to escape and increases the volume. It releases the tone from the body so that the notes do not overlap each other too much. This is especially desirable for faster playing. It allows the player to open or close the port with their lap and chose different resonance levels for a different effect. Additional dampening of the notes and drum body keeps the drum from becoming discordant and ringy.
The compact drum body easily fits in your lap. The head is 12 inches across, allowing for easy reach to all of the notes. A true rectangular shape rather than the usual tongue shape of a note produces a clearer sound. By using an ideal height-to-width ratio for different notes we have been able to improve the amplitude of the note and create better balance. Each note is carefully hand tuned using a strobe tuner for complete control of the tuning process. The nature of the vibrating tongue allows for note stability, which makes retuning unnecessary. This means each HAPI is a stable and reliable instrument.
We recommend playing the HAPI with the pads of your fingers. A wide range of sounds can be created with different techniques. Playing by hand connects you with the drum in the way that traditional drums are enjoyed. A minimal amount of force creates a big sound on our drums. We also supply each drum with mallets designed to bring out the pure sound of each note. Our mallets eliminate head slap, creating a very clear tone. The arrangement of the notes make going up and down the scale very easy. Also one hand can reach two or three notes simultaneously for chord playing.
HAPI Drums are available in the E or D scale with eight notes. We use a Pentatonic scale so that players without a musical background can play any note combination and still produce a beautiful sound. You can choose from the Major or Minor scale for each drum. The "HAPI Vibe" is in the major scale, which produces a happy carefree sound and is suitable for playing with all sorts of instruments. The "HAPI Meditator" is in the minor scale, which produces a soulful introspective sound. While the HAPI Meditator can also play with many different kinds of instruments it is ideally suited for playing with Native American flute. Custom scales are available
Each drum comes with a pair of mallets and a handbook that outlines playing techniques. You will learn proper mallet and hand playing techniques, ideal chords, as well as practice exercises.
The new Legends of Jazz Series features stick models from master jazz drummers Jimmy Cobb, Chico Hamilton and Charli Persip. Each model was designed to meet their individual sound and feel preferences.
Chico Hamilton's stick model combines a 5A grip with a gradual taper for a very responsive and quick feel. The teardrop style tip delivers warm cymbal sounds. L 16 1/4"; D .570"; Hickory.
Charli Persip's design is a shorter stick that's just over a 5A in the grip. The barrel style tip gives a defined ride cymbal sound without being too "pingy." L 15 1/4"; D .575"; Hickory.

Vanderplas Baileo Percussion has introduced a MIDI Pickup System for mallet percussion instruments. At standard the system is for ranges up to 48 bars, however bigger ranges (up to 96 bars) are available at special order. It is an open architecture system which makes it easy to upgrade with new added features.

Pro-Mark Corporation announced the addition of the TS8 Sean Vega Tenor stick to its line of marching sticks and mallets.
The TS8, a part of the System Blue family of products, is made of American hickory. It is 16 1/4 inches long. It features a Comfort Flare grip measuring .730 (18.5mm) in diameter, tapering to .680 (17.3mm) in diameter, with a .730 diameter nylon cookie style tip. It has the feel of a snare stick with the sound of a tenor mallet.

Pro-Mark Corporation has introduced the first of a series of marching snare sticks to be released under the System Blue Banner. System Blue is the result of collaboration between The Concord Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps and Pro-Mark Corporation.

The Dominic Howard model (TX101W) is made of American hickory. It is 16 long and .571 inches (14.5mm) in diameter with a medium-small, acorn-shaped wood tip for precise articulation. The long taper provides superior rebound on any playing surface. Dominic Howard is founder and drummer for the critically acclaimed band Muse.
The Fausto Cuevas Rumbero model (FC-3) is made of American hickory. It is 16 1/2" long and .485 inches (12.3mm) in diameter. The Rumbero is designed primarily for timbales. It features two rounded ends and a six-inch Natural grip area. The Fausto Crevas Rumbero model is sold four pairs to a package. Fausto Cuevas is a highly respected percussionist currently on tour with Stevie Wonder.
Milltone is a small start-up company that produces musical, steel-tank, tongue, hand drums to fill a developing niche market. Milltone Drums are not mass produced, but are hand crafted in the United States. We began in response to an individual request for a smaller steel tongue tank drum. We began with three models, SG-CR, SG-FR, and SG-TB. Milltone developed its Standard 8 note tuning over the production run of the SG models. All Milltone drums currently listed have this tuning, which gives the Milltone Drums their signature sound, and is very easy to play with a broad range of tones.
Milltone Drums has completed design specs for the third generation TG models, which were released in June, 2008. We have developed two new features with the third generation drums. The large offset sound port, and magnetic tuning disks for concert-pitch tuning. The ability to tune a Milltone to concert pitch has found favor, especially with professional musicians, for gigs, studio work, and soundtracks.
We now have the newest design established in the MFT models, Magnetic Fine Tuning. These drums are tuned with 3, 4, or 5 (depending on the note) small high-power magnets on the back of the tongues. This allows musicians to sharpen the notes by sliding the magnets down the tongues. Previously it would be necessary to grind off material from the end of the tongues to sharpen the note. This feature allows precise adjustments while the tone remains the same.
The Avedis Zildjian Co. has introduced six new crashes to the A Custom cymbal series. A Custom ReZo" Crashes are now available in 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20-inch sizes, all featuring medium-thin weights, a new bell size and a new Brilliant/Traditional finish combination.
Named for their exceptional reso-nating qualities, the A Custom ReZo crashes feature a new look that displays alternating bands of spiral and full lathing techniques while using both Traditional and Brilliant finishes. The Avedis Zildjian Co. announced the introduction of a second-generation series of ride cymbals designed with renowned jazz drummer Bill Stewart. The new K Custom Dry Complex Ride II cymbals are available in sizes of 20, 22 and 24-inch and incorporate many of the successful design elements, along with some new additional features, of the original Complex Rides that were modeled after Stewarts distinctive ride sound.
These new cymbals feature a wider bell design with a much lower profile that helps to promote more control while offering a smooth and less metallic array of rich overtones. With medium-thin weight specifications that are slightly heavier than the first generation of Complex Rides, these new cymbals are now more versatile than ever as they provide ride patterns that can be heard clearly from within an airy wash of overtones.
All the sizes continue to display the unique high profile of their predecessors with the help of four extensive hammering processes that facilitate an exceptional expression of sound. Each cymbal employs traditional lathing with no tonal grooves on top, and a scratch lathing method underneath except at the outer edge to assist with a loose but easily contained set of overtones. Unlike the 24 and 22-inch models, the 20-inch ride features full scratch lathing on the bottom.
The Avedis Zildjian Co. has announced its first-ever color-coated cymbal series. Pitch Black" cymbals are available in a full range of sizes and models and are designed specifically for rock and metal applications. The series features eight models including a 22-inch ride, 20-inch crash ride, 18 and 16-inch crashes, 13-inch splash, 15-inch Mastersound hi-hats, 14-inch hi-hats and an 18-inch China.
Utilizing a proprietary coating process, all Pitch Black cymbals are made from Zildjians high-performance Bronze 12 alloy, which features enhanced tin content for a richer sound. The coating process allows the cymbals to be durable and visually striking while still opening up as a cymbal should. Heavier weights and large sizes combined with new profiles, cups, lathing and hammering techniques help to deliver the brightness and presence required for rock and metal applications.
The 22-inch ride features an oversized bell for extra volume but is crafted to have enough wash to provide body when striking the edge. The 20-inch crash ride was primarily designed as an explosive crash but still has enough balance to be used as a primary or secondary ride. For crashes, the 18-inch model is clear and substantial with excellent sustain, and the 16-inch model along with the 13-inch splash are perfect for quick accents.
The 14-inch hi-hats offer the traditional size while the 15-inch Mastersound hi-hats offer extra volume with the hammered outer edge on the bottom cymbal providing a massive chick sound. The undersides of both hi-hat models have been left uncoated to maximize their chick and projection. Rounding out the series, the 18-inch China features a wide flange and gives a powerful voice for trashy, musical punctuations.
Ludwig Drum Co. has announced the introduction of new Black Magic Snare Drums designed using a classic formula, but for a more aggressive musical age.
Black Magic snare drums share the same Black Nickel-Over-Brass shell type with the famous Ludwig Black Beauty snare drum, but with unique features like matching die-cast hoops for increased volume, and tube-style lugs for maximum shell resonance. To bring the essence of this sound to drummers of every playing style, Black Magic Snares come in 6.5 x 14, 7 x 13, and 5 x 14 models, and are priced to fit the budget of the working musician.
Dealers are set to take delivery of the first run of these instruments beginning in the fall of 2008.
Ludwig Marching Mallets incorporate shafts made from aircraft-grade aluminum for maximum durability and balance. The aluminum handle is sleeved with a synthetic comfort grip. Ludwig Bass drum mallets are made from high-density hard felt and have four size diameters to accommodate bass drum diameters ranging from 16 to 32 . Ludwig Multi-Tom mallets have a radial style Delrin disc with the L5300 for an articulate high-volume performance and a Cartwheel Delrin Disc for more volume and tonal center with the L5301. The L5302 is made from the same grade of hard felt as the bass drum mallets and great for more legato playing or to hear a more mellow voice from the Multi-Toms.
