Now available in 18" and 20" Crash-Ride models and matching 14" Hi-hats, the new LTD Series from the TRX Cymbal Co. has been designed to offer drummers several improvements over the sound and performance of previously available Crash-Rides and Hi-hats. The LTD Series employs three types of finishing processes to enhance the two types of sounds that are characteristic of the popular, dual-purpose cymbals.
The outer edge of LTD Crash-Ride cymbals features a heavily polished finish that adds more brightness and explosiveness to the crash component of the sound, while the bell of the cymbal has a natural finish to increase the definition and articulation of the ride sound. To maintain a balance between the LTD's clarity and power and its overall warmth and full-frequency tonal spectrum, the main playing surface has a more traditional lathed and hand-hammered finish. In the case of the hi-hats, this "three-zone" approach provides a cleaner, crisper stick and foot sound plus more volatile open and half-open effects.
Slightly heavier than TRX MDM (Medium) Series to further enhance their projection and durability, TRX LTD line is recommended for a variety of contemporary playing situations. The cymbals are sold individually but are also available in an exclusive Crash-Ride Combo Pack, which includes an 18" and 20" Crash-Ride, 14" Hi-Hats and a free TRX deluxe cymbal bag, while supplies last.
Mike Balter Mallets has introduced a new series of marimba mallets: The Chorale. This new series features extra-long birch handles with heads wrapped with extremely durable microfiber, making them ideal for playing indoors or out. The overall length of 17 5/8" enables players to reach any interval, and the unique head covering will produce both the warmth of yarn-covered mallets and the articulation of a cord-covered mallet. The Chorale Series mallets help players produce unparalleled sound on rosewood and synthetic marimba bars. The series is available in a range of six hardness levels, from Extra Soft to Hard.
Grover Pro Percussion Inc., parent company of SilverFox drumsticks, introduced two new stick models, the Boston Basher and the Sweet Pea at MESSE from March 12-15, in Frankfurt, Germany.
The Boston Basher debuted to rave reviews from hard rock and heavy metal players. The olive-shaped wood tip and short tapered shoulder achieve maximum projection from snare drums of any construction and bring out a full-bodied tone from toms. At 16" long with a diameter of .620", this durable hickory stick effortlessly achieves heavy volumes on the club scene or in arena venues without feeling heavy in your hands.
The Sweet Pea also enjoyed a successful debut. At 15 3/4" long with a diameter of 0565", this dynamic hickory stick features a small ball tip for fast response on cymbals while producing a warm sound on snare. Created in response to jazz artists' requests for a stick with the feel of a 5A, yet capable of consistent cymbal articulation and projection, the Sweet Pea is the ideal choice for combo jazz in every setting.
