TRIPLET SNARE DRUM EXERCISE
Graeme J. Thew
Principal Percussionist, H. M. Grenadier Guards London, England This illustrates how a simple exercise can be developed to cover various areas of snare drum technique. (continued at bottom)

Begin with a basic snare drum accent pattern (a), then replace each accent with a flam (b), replace the flams with double strokes (c), and finally reverse the process by inserting double strokes where single notes have previously been played (d). All exercises may be played at a variety of tempos. Repeat each exercise 1020 times.
