BILL CAHN COMES TO SHENANDOAH UNIVERSITY!
Internationally famous percussionist Bill Cahn of Nexus will be at
Shenandoah Conservatory, on October 3rd at 7:00pm for the world
premier of his composition, “NIGHT RIDE for Timpani and Orchestra.”
It will performed by the Shenandoah Conservatory Orchestra, Jan
Wagner director. The timpani soloist for the premier will be Earl
Yowell, Director of Percussion Studies at Shenandoah and former
Principal Timpani/Percussion with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra.
While at Shenandoah Bill Cahn will be giving a Creative Music Making
Workshop on Saturday morning, 10/4 from 10:00am. to noon:
- An interactive workshop in which participants have the opportunity to perform in free-form musical improvisation in an ensemble of 2 to 6 players using available instruments. This workshop is designed to develop confidence in creating music without the constraints of thinking about technique or printed music; the focus is on listening and connecting with “the music”.

While at Shenandoah, Bill will also be available for private lessons.
This is also open to the public.

WASHINGTON, DC, September 16, 2008 – Levine School of Music will present Percussion Day, a day of percussion related master classes, workshops and recitals designed for students, performers, and educators on Sunday, October 12, 2008 from 1 pm to 6 pm at its Maryland campus at The Music Center at Strathmore. Levine at Strathmore is located at 5301 Tuckerman Lane, North Bethesda, MD 20852. The event features a roster of international artists and educators, including rock star Zoro, Sabian representative Dr. Nick Petrella, master percussionist Tom Teasley and Levine faculty artist Ian Sikora. Sponsors of Percussion Day include DW Drums, Sabian Cymbals, Evans Drumheads, Vic Firth Sticks, Latin Percussion, Yamaha, Cooperman Fife and Drum, and Audix Microphone. Zoro is an internationally recognized rock star and one of the world’s most renowned and respected drummers. He has toured and recorded with Lenny Kravitz, Bobby Brown, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, The New Edition, Jody Watley, Sean Lennon, Philip Bailey, Lisa Marie Presley, among many others.
With more than two decades of creating music, Zoro has worked tirelessly to take drumming to a new level. “Zoro wrote the book on dynamics, touch, control, and groove,” says Modern Drummer Magazine. Nicknamed the “Minister of Groove,” Zoro authored the number one award winning and best-selling book and DVD package: The Commandments of R&B Drumming. Dr. Nick Petrella is the Director of Education for Sabian Ltd., and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Percussion at the University of Missouri - Kansas City Conservatory of Music. As a performer he has commissioned and premiered over a dozen compositions and has many solo and chamber music performances to his credit. Nick performs regularly with the Kansas City Symphony and has played with several large ensembles. Committed to percussion education, Nick has published numerous articles in United States and European music journals.
Tom Teasley, Artist in Residence at Levine School of Music, performs in the U.S. and Europe, teaches in a private studio, resents master classes and school programs, and holds a number of residencies. A prolific composer and ensemble leader, he continues developing new pieces and recordings, with a ninth (Painting Time) just released. He enjoys airplay on TV, in film, and on National Public Radio. Ian Sikora received his Bachelor of Arts in percussion performance from the University of Maryland. He is an accomplished percussionist, well-versed in styles as varied as jazz, rock, opera and musical theater. He has performed and taught in many diverse settings, including local private schools and outreach programs.
