South Gwinnett High School will be hosting “A Day of Percussion.”
On April 26th, 2008
This event, will include performances by 16 local middle and high school percussion ensembles , as well as clinics and master classes throughout the day.
Kevin Bobo, Professor of Percussion at Indiana University, will be presenting a marimba clinic at noon, and Dr. Arvin Scott, Professor of Percussion at the University of Georgia, will be presenting a hand-drumming master class at 4pm. The evening will be capped off by a performance featuring Kevin Bobo, Gordon Stout and The University of Georgia Percussion Ensemble at 8pm. Come join us for what promises to be a great “Day of Percussion”!
This event is co-sponsored by Malletech, Latin Percussion,
Sabian, The Georgia Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society, the Southern
Association for Performance Arts, and Fork’s Drum Closet.

The GA Chapter of PAS would like to welcome Dr. Marcus Reddick to Mercer University in Macon.
Dr. Marcus Reddick is in his first year as the Director of Percussion Studies and Assistant Professor of Music at Mercer University in Macon, GA. where he teaches applied percussion lessons, percussion ensemble, percussion techniques, and classes in music theory and musicianship. Before coming Mercer, Dr. Reddick was the Director of Percussion Studies at Albany State University in Albany, GA.
A Colorado native, Dr. Reddick received his Doctor of Musical Arts in Percussion Performance from the University of Kentucky, a Master of Music in Percussion Performance at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas and a Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. His principal teachers at each of these universities were Professor James Campbell at UK, Dr. Dean Gronemeier at UNLV, and Dr. Steven Rehbein at UNO.
During
his tenure as a student, Reddick received several awards including the prestigious
UNLV Foundation Creative Arts Award, an annual award given to only one student
in the College of Fine and Performing Arts, the Distinguished Music Performance
Award upon completion of his degree from UNO, and multiple soloist awards
from the Kansas City, Chicago, Greeley, and Louisville Jazz Festivals.
As a percussionist, Dr. Reddick has toured and performed with numerous ensembles
ranging from local to international in personnel throughout the United States,
Europe, Africa, and South America. He has performed with orchestras from
all over the United States including the Omaha Symphony, Nevada Symphony,
Las Vegas Philharmonic, Lexington Philharmonic, Colorado Symphony, Albany
Symphony, and most recently the Macon Symphony. Other musical ensembles
have included the Nevada Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Chamber Music Southwest,
New Music Ensemble, and The Mothers Big Band, to name but a few. He also
performed in and was assistant music director of the Las Vegas Percussion
Group.
Dr. Reddick has also been an Artist-in-Residence at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, a marimba soloist/clinician at numerous colleges throughout the country, and a featured artist/clinician at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention, at the Nebraska Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society Day of Percussion, the World Percussion Festival in Bloomington, Indiana, the Atlanta International Band and Orchestra Conference, the Midwest Band and Orchestra Conference in Chicago, and most recently at the Atlanta Jazz Festival, performing with jazz legend Donald Byrd. Reddick can be heard Troppe Note Recordings and Smitty Records, in addition to several independent labels.
Dr. Reddick continues to pioneer the performance, composition, and pedagogy of the six-mallet independence technique for the marimba.

April 8-11: The New York-based percussion quartet, So Percussion, will be in residency at GSU as a part of the Steve Reich 70th Birthday Festival.
The GSU School of Music, in conjunction with the Rialto Center for the Performing Arts, and Bent Frequency new music group, will be presenting a 3-evening mini festival celebrating the music of one the country's most famous and influential composers of the last half century, Steve Reich, in celebration of his 70th birthday. During the three events (outlined below) we will present a large amount of Reich's ground breaking percussion music, including his monumental work Drumming in its entirety.

Tickets are available at www.rialtocenter.org, please note that there is a significant discount to students, and for buying tickets to both performances at the Rialto. There will also be pre-concert discussions as well as receptions after the perfomances.
In addition, Dr. Stuart Gerber will be presenting a faculty percussion recital at Kopleff Recital Hall at GSU on Wednesday, 18 April 2007, at 7:30 pm. This recital will feature the music of Karlheinz Stockhausen, Atlanta's own Alvin Singleton, as well as Bela Bartok's groundbreaking Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion. This recital is free and open to the public.

Friday, 24 March. 7:30 am: the GSU Percussion Ensemble will be featured on FOX TV’s “Good Morning Atlanta.” We will be performing a traditional Brazilian batucada in preparation of the “Brazil in Atlanta” concert that evening.
Friday, 24 March 8:00 pm: the GSU Percussion Ensemble will perform a traditional Brazilian batucada on the “Celebrating a World of Rhythm and Dance: Brazil in Atlanta” concert at the Rialto Center for the Performing Arts on the GSU campus.
Saturday, 25 March 7:30 pm: Neal Giedd will be presenting his junior recital at the Kopleff Recital Hall on the GSU campus. He will be playing works by Jennifer Stasack, Marta Ptaszynska, and GSU composer Drew Dolan, plus a solo improvisation for bass drum.
Tuesday. 28 March 8:00 pm, Dr. Stuart Gerber (GSU Percussion coordinator), will be performing with the Thamyris New Music Ensemble at Emerson Hall on the Emory University campus in a concert entitled “Metal Gardens.” He will perform Kaija Saariaho’s Six Japanese Gardens for solo percussion and electronics. Also, Louis Andriessen’s Worker’s Union will be featured.
