RHYTHM! DISCOVERY CENTER IS A USA TODAY TOP EXPERIENCE
July 27, 2012
Rhythm! Discovery Center is proud to be listed as one of the top places in the nation for hands-on music making, according to the July 27th article from the travel section of USA Today. Since opening its downtown Indianapolis doors in late 2009, the Center has provided interactive and unique exhibits for the enjoyment of musicians, non-musicians and families, allowing people of all ages to play and experience the uniqueness of percussion instruments from cultures around the world.
The article in USA Today interviews Joe Lamond, the President/CEO of the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) and discusses the top experiences throughout the nation where interaction with music and music instruments in all genres and styles are at the forefront of each organization. The article places Rhythm! Discovery Center as a celebration of drumming and percussion beside such noted institutions as the EMP Museum in Seattle (formerly the Experience Music Project), Grammy Museum in Los Angeles and the Rock ‘n’ Roll Fantasy Camp in Las Vegas.

Michael Kenyon, Executive Director of Rhythm! Discovery Center and Percussive Arts Society, stated about the Center: “As a new entity in the vibrant Indianapolis cultural community, we are thrilled to receive this distinction. The opportunity for visitors to explore sounds and rhythms through interactive exhibits and the experience of playing real percussion instruments from around the world were central to the vision of Rhythm! As a facility still less than three years old, it is an honor to be listed among the country’s best.”
In addition to the many exceptional interactive exhibits at the Center, Rhythm! Discovery Center continues to provide programs for the Indianapolis community and surrounding areas through educational student group tours and its highly entertaining Rhythm! Saturday Programs during the school year. These family-friendly programs include performances, drum circles, jazz programs and the extremely popular children’s drum building workshop. The Rhythm! Saturday Programs will begin again on September 15, 2012 at 11am.
Rhythm! Discovery Center is a creative vision of the Percussive Arts Society, and one of the largest archives dedicated to percussion instruments, manuscripts and other material related to percussion and drums. Admission to the Center is $8 for adults, $5 for students, and FREE for children 5 and under for the entire day. Rhythm! Discovery Center is located at 110 W. Washington St. on the Northwest corner of Washington and Illinois Streets. For more information about Rhythm!
