44th Annual Percussion Composition Contest

The Percussive Arts Society Percussion Composition Contest is designed to encourage and reward those who create music for percussion instruments and to increase the number of quality compositions written for percussion. Many of the contest winners are considered staples in modern percussion literature. 

Instrumentation and category restrictions are determined by the PAS Composition Committee each year and the deadline for entries is April 15th.

Category I. Solo Glockenspiel » View Winners
Category II. Large Percussion Ensemble (8–12 Players) » View Winners

2017 Categories » APPLY NOW!
Category I. Multi Keyboard Solo (any combination of keyboard percussion instruments performed by one player)
Category II. Brass Quintet with 2–4 percussionists

2018 Categories
Category I. Drumset: maximum 5 pieces with hi-hat plus up to 3 cymbals
Category II. Keyboard Percussion Ensemble: instrumentation may be selected from chimes, vibraphone, xylophone, marimba, glockenspiel, and crotales

2019 Categories
Category I. Duo with at least one percussionist
Category II. Small Percussion Ensemble (3-5 players) for early to intermediate percussionists (see composition rubric for specifics)

2020 Categories
Category I. Solo percussion with projected visual media
Category II. Solo pan with medium percussion ensemble (3-8 players
