2020 Daniel Glass New York Jazz Intensive
When: May 29–June 1, 2020
Course of Study: For four incredible days and nights, master drummer, author, historian, and educator Daniel Glass will lead you through an immersive exploration of jazz drumming. This event will take place at the legendary Drummers Collective school of music in Manhattan. Whether you’re a novice or a more experienced player, the DG Jazz Intensive will present jazz drumming from a unique perspective; it will elevate your chops, broaden your understanding of what to do on the bandstand, and get you swinging like never before. In addition to the intensive course of study, you will have the opportunity to jam and perform with a professional New York rhythm section, experience the legendary jazz clubs of Manhattan, and learn from all-star guest clinicians. Guests in past years have included Kenny Washington, Carl Allen, Shawn Pelton, Billy Ward, Andres Forero, and Allen Herman.
Tamburi Mundi 15th International Frame Drum Festival
When: July 31–August 9
Where: E-Werk in Freiburg, Germany
Course of Study: These intensive courses are all about playing the frame drum (large frame drum, Persian daf, tamburello, Brazilian pandeiro, Irish bodhrán, Portuguese adufe, bendir, etc.). In the afternoons there will be a varied workshop program on the topic “Rhythm-Body-Voice,” on special aspects of frame drum music, rhythms from Central Asia, shakers, castanets, darbuka, tonbak, voice and dance… and many more varied and exciting topics. We are also very pleased that voice acrobat LOIRE Cotler (USA) will be enriching the festival program with her choir project “Drumming Voices” this year: a rhythmic adventure in which scat singing (jazz) meets the South Indian drum language Solkattu. The participants can choose amongst several course modules and supplement them with shorter workshops in the afternoon
