Heartland Marimba Online Weekend Workshop
Join Heartland Marimba Quartet and award-winning composer Jenni Brandon for a weekend jam-packed with talks on music entrepreneurship. Participants will learn about the ins and outs of growing their own careers as composers and/or performers during eight hours of classes spread over two days. Class topics include commissioning and contracts, publishing, marketing, branding, creating and running ensembles, touring, and more.
This event takes place during the last weekend of Jenni Brandon and Heartland Marimba’s Online Composition Festival, so participants will also have the opportunity to (virtually) meet composers from around the world. As the sessions are all scheduled outside of the workweek, this package makes for a perfect weekend deep-dive into the “outside of the practice room” side of being a professional musician.
Heartland Marimba has been committed to creating a viable market for the classical marimba artform since 2014. Comprised of four distinctly creative forces—Matthew Coley, Christina Cheon, Joe Millea, and Ujjal Bhattacharyya—HMQ exemplifies Heartland Marimba’s mission to develop and disseminate the classical marimba artform.
Jenni Brandon is a composer and conductor, creating works from opera to concertos in collaboration with other musicians and artists. Her style is beautiful and lyrical, telling stories through memorable musical lines. Her award‐winning music has been performed internationally and appears on over 20 albums.
To attend this weekend course, you will need a device with Zoom installed, as well as a stable internet connection. Tuition for the weekend workshop is $100, and the deadline for registration is October 8, 2020. For more information, visit heartlandmarimba.com/opportunities.
