Dave Black Named Advisor for Tamburo Drums
Proel North America has announced the appointment of Dave Black to the position of Artist and Market Development Advisor for Tamburo Drums, the Italian-made line of acoustic drums. In his new role, Dave will support the North American launch and market development of Tamburo Drums as both an artist and in his role as Market Development Advisor (artist relations, product development, and educational consultant).

Of Tamburo Drums, Dave Black says, “Like the fine Italian luthiers of the 17th and 18th centuries, the tradition has continued into the 21st century with the exquisite craftsmanship of Tamburo Drums. Made in Italy, these are among the finest and best-sounding drums I’ve ever played and heard. I’m proud to play a part in the launch of Tamburo Drums in North America.”

According to Antonio Ferranti, President of Proel North America, “Tamburo Drums, highly respected throughout Europe and internationally for over 35 years, is finally coming to the United States and Canada, and requires a market advisor and industry liaison who has the respect of the drum community’s top artists, performers, educators, students, and retailers. Dave Black, among the drum industry’s best-selling authors and educators, is uniquely qualified to help introduce Tamburo to North America.”

A prolific composer and arranger, more than 60 of Dave Black’s compositions and arrangements have been published by Alfred Music, Barnhouse, CPP/Belwin, TRN, Highland/Etling, and Warner Bros. He has been the recipient of numerous awards and commissions, including 26 consecutive ASCAP Popular Composer Awards, two Grammy participation/nomination certificates (one for his contribution as album-track composer on Louie Bellson's Grammy-nominated album Airmail Special), the 2012 Percussive Arts Society President's Industry Award, a Modern Drummer Readers Poll award (educational book), two Drum! magazine Drummie! awards (educational books), and a certified Gold Record award for the sale of more than 500,000 copies of Alfred's Drum Method, Book 1. Black served on the PAS Board of Directors for six years, was a member of the PAS Sustaining Members Advisory Council, and was host of PASIC ’91 in Anaheim, California. He is the former Vice President and Editor-in-Chief (School and Pop Publications) for Alfred Music, where he worked for 35 years.

Behind the Sleeves
The Avedis Zildjian Company, parent company of Vic Firth, is pleased to announce the launch of a new video content series titled “Vic Firth: Stories Behind the Sleeves.” This six-part series of virtual masterclass experiences aims to give drummers unprecedented access to some of the greatest drummers and educators in the world.

Vic Firth Behind The Sleeves

“Stories Behind the Sleeves” will be aired as six, one-hour episodes, each broadcast monthly starting May 26, 2021. Each episode will feature a different Vic Firth artist who will talk in depth about the design of their Vic Firth sticks of choice, what “must-haves” they keep in their stick bag, and an engaging masterclass instruction on some of the principles of their playing. Programs will also feature full band performances using various sticks and implements, as well as a question-and-answer session using viewer-submitted questions.

“This last year we’ve all deeply missed live music,” says Vic Firth Global Brand Manager Mike Weber, “and as drummers we’ve especially missed live drum masterclasses and clinics. There’s a special energy in getting to be up close and interacting with incredible artists, asking questions, watching them perform, and learning invaluable lessons from masters of the craft. Our whole goal with this new series was to do our best to recreate that masterclass experience, and be able to share it with people all over the world. We could not be more proud to have this exciting lineup of Vic Firth artists share their talent and wisdom with the drumming community!”
