This nine-day online festival, January 8-16, 2021, is designed for student musicians from a wide range of musical practices. The Sō Percussion Collaborative Workshop will feature an innovative, collaboration-focused curriculum and performances by participants of new music curated by Sō Percussion, all of it tailored to the practices of the admitted participants. The application window opened October 15, 2020 and application is free with a “pay what you can” tuition with suggested fee.
Participation in the festival consists of Zoom rehearsals, independent time spent contributing tracks, editing, and mixing, and daily talks from a wide range of expert guest musicians and artists. At the end, a marathon live-stream of all the projects will be hosted and heavily promoted on Sō Percussion’s channels. Sō Percussion has found that pieces with flexible instrumentation work best in remote collaboration, so that whatever participants have lying around at home can fit into the projects.
