CGCC Summer Percussion Workshop

Course of Study: The CGCC Summer Percussion Workshop is designed to promote percussion participation and instruct students in the areas of percussion ensemble and solo percussion performance. This workshop is open to high school percussion students, including those entering high school in the fall, and 2021 high school graduates. Students will spend time in ensemble rehearsal as well as in topical- and solo performance-based masterclasses. The final day (Thursday) of the workshop will feature either a Solo & Ensemble Percussion Recital or ensemble recording session (depending on current COVID protocols).
Tuition: $100 (one-credit tuition plus college fees for Maricopa residents)

NYU Broadway Percussion Seminar

Course of Study: The Broadway Percussion Seminar is a four-day intensive study of the skills, experience, and know-how of Broadway percussion. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet and work with leading top percussionists, contractors, and conductors working on Broadway. Throughout the week, sessions will cover a variety of topics, including the drum set and percussion books for multiple Broadway shows, setup and technical advice, use of the most up-to-date technology, candid and sage advice for creating a career as a Broadway musician, subbing on Broadway (Super-Sub!), and a unique session with Local 802 musician’s union leadership. Participants will be sent a variety of materials for their personal study, such as scores, pit recordings, and conductor videos. We're also excited for our newest session called “The Virtual Broadway Pit,” where we will watch video of a show being played in the pit, with the percussionist offering real-time narration and insight.

NYU Sandbox Percussion Seminar
When: August 1–6, 2021
Faculty: Sandbox Percussion, directors; guest artists John Luther Adams, Amy Beth Kirsten, David Lang, Kristin Lee, and Kendall Williams.
Course of Study: The Sandbox Percussion Seminar is an intensive study of chamber music skills and repertoire. Throughout the week, we will feature live discussions and masterclasses via Zoom, on topics ranging from practice and rehearsal techniques to entrepreneurship advice for creating a career in the arts. Guest artists, along with the members of Sandbox Percussion, will be available to all participants within an intimate learning format where dialogue and interaction are encouraged. The week will culminate with a virtual performance featuring everyone involved in the seminar and will be released online!

Rhythmic Independence Intensive and Mentorship
When: June 21–23, 2021 (beginner); June 28–30, 2021 (intermediate), July 7–9, 2021 (advanced)
Where: Online via Zoom
Course of Study: Participate in a three-day intensive focused on attaining a high level of performance while executing differing rhythmic structures between your voice and your instrument simultaneously. Build your musical community by learning and growing in a small group setting. Each session is open to five participants. Each session will have three guest artists: a group masterclass with either Ayano Kataoka or Bonnie Whiting (depending on which session you attend), a Q&A with Stuart Saunders Smith, and a performance and Q&A with Spectrum Ensemble. The Rhythmic Independence Intensive and Mentorship offers an opportunity for strengthening one’s rhythmic abilities, incorporating one’s voice into one's artistry, building community in a small group setting, and the opportunity for valuable conversations on career, life, being an artist, and so much more!
Tuition: $500 per student. Sliding scale available! There is an additional $35 non-refundable application fee due upon submission of the application. QTBIPOC scholarships are available.
Requirements: At least one year of private collegiate study on your primary instrument; letter of recommendation from private instructor submitted by May 31, 2021; completion of the application by May 20, 2021.
